I wanna be a part of it, Sheffield, Sheffield...
Things have settled into a lovely post-festivities vibe here at Piscorp Towers. Most importantly, I got engaged to the lovely Dr. Libby over the New Year which has provided much much joy (no date set as yet, but Ed will be DJing). Hooray! Also, we have acquired a new guitar to replace the dead one. Be warned – it is pink! We’ll be having our first practice with it tonight, and on it we’ll be playing the four or five new song ideas that we have. One’s even a waltz, since as Andy often states, every band should have a song in ¾.
Aaaaaanyway – I find myself already cringing as I write this, since we’re the sort who try to focus on the music we’re making, rather than the glitz and razzmatazz that the Sheffield music scene affords us, but there’s a little competition happening. It’s called the Soundaloud Sheffield Music Awards, and its like the Brits but with better canapés, and nominations are open now here –
Soundaloud Sheffield Music Awards
Now, it would be churlish of me to ask you to click on the link and nominate us, for two reasons:
1) You might think we’re rubbish.
2) You might not know any other Sheffield bands, and therefore feel that you democratic rights have been compromised due to lack of information.
In which case not to worry, but if you’ve got election fever and can’t resist, click away and vote to your hearts content.
Most importantly though, perhaps this is a fine opportunity to mention that Sheffield music has a lot to offer the keen listener, and if you aren’t familiar with the bleeps, whistles, screeches, raps, thuds and crackles that Sheffield has to offer, perhaps you should pop along to Soundaloud, a wonderful resource maintained by King Paul Cooper. You won’t regret it – MP3s a go-go!
Peter
